The Office of Adult Education encourages local programs to
offer family literacy-related activities where appropriate,
such as the inclusion of assistance to parents to obtain the
educational skills necessary to become full partners in the
education development of their children. Creative adult education
instructors across the state contextualize their teaching to
include family literacy-related information and activities.
Some local programs collaborate with family literacy programs
such as Even Start, by providing the adult education component
of the services. The Center
for Literacy Studies has family literacy information and
resources available. Contact Beth Ponder, librarian, for more
information.

"The family literacy program we've begun is not only for the
families that we are serving this year, but also for the children
that will be born in those families for many years to come. Improvement
of family literacy is a legacy that [we] want to be a part of and
to embrace."
