Projects
  • The Office of Adult Education encourages local programs to offer family literacy-related activities where appropriate, such as the inclusion of assistance to parents to obtain the educational skills necessary to become full partners in the education development of their children. Creative adult education instructors across the state contextualize their teaching to include family literacy-related information and activities. Some local programs collaborate with family literacy programs such as Even Start, by providing the adult education component of the services. The Center for Literacy Studies has family literacy information and resources available. Contact Beth Ponder, librarian, for more information.

  • Tennessee Family Literacy Consortium
The Office of Adult Education is a founding member of The Tennessee Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative Consortium. The Consortium is a group of collaborating agencies and individuals who have come together to strengthen, expand, coordinate and , as appropriate, integrate existing federal, state and local family literacy resources. The Consortium is funded and managed through the Tennessee Department of Education, Office of Family Literacy Programs.
