Online Professional Development Courses

The University of Tennessee Center for Literacy Studies, Division of Labor and Workforce Development is proud to present four more online professional development courses for the 2007-2008 academic year. Designed for instructors, each focuses on instructional techniques and hands-on application of techniques with students. 
Each course will be offered at least once during 2007-2008, with a limit of 30 participants in each session. 


Introduction to Learning Difficulties in Adults (12 PD points)
Fifty to eighty percent of students in adult education classes have learning difficulties many with diagnosed learning disabilities. This introductory course, designed for adult education instructors, will overview types of learning difficulties, various screening tools to assist in identification, and teaching tools to support identified learning needs.

Note: Registrants must have their own e-mail address to participate in the course.

Online Course: Adult Education - Teaching Tools (12 PD points)
Delivered via the Internet, this six-week course focuses on familiarizing instructors with teaching tools that will enhance teaching practices leading to greater learning, retention, and success for adult students. It offers a wealth of resources and teaching strategies on topics such as reflective teaching, cooperative/collaborative learning, multiple intelligences, and contextual instruction. The course will help participants draw their own connections between current research and teacher practice; it provides opportunities for practical classroom application, online collaboration, and sharing best practices with other adult educators—and much more!

Online Course: Distance Education in Adult Education-
The GED Connections Video Series (8 PD points)
Delivered via the internet, this online course replaces the previously offered "face-to-face" workshop on this same topic. This workshop will overview the GED Connections video series as a distance Education tool, provide recommendations for successfully supporting AE students at a distance, and review accountability procedures for administering distance education in Tennessee. Programs new to Distance Education in Tennessee are strongly encouraged to register at least one instructor and one supervisor pair for this daylong workshop. All participants MUST register by the deadline as some hardcopy materials and video tapes *will* be mailed to them prior to course start.
(For TN AE practitioners only - new to DE OR who wish a "refresher")
